MR R. MASTERS, M.P., MINISTER OF INDUSTRIES AND COMMERCE
♦♦♦ — URGENT NEED FOR DEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRIES EVERY MAN AND WOMAN CAN ASSIST I wish to take this opportunity of congratulating the organisers of the “ Made in New Zealand Week ” shop window displays upon their efforts in so worthy a cause. The development of New Zealand’s manufacturing industries, the extension of existing avenues for employment and the creation of new ones, are ample justification for the greatest possible efforts to increase the demand for commodities manufactured or produced within the Dominion. The problem of unemployment is, as everyone will agree, a most difficult one, and its solution requires the earnest co-operation of every man and woman in New Zealand. Moreover, it is comparatively easy for every man and woman to assist in a very practical way, and that is by the purchase of New Zealand-made products wherever possible in preference to similar goods imported from overseas. Each shilling spent on locally-made goods increases the demand for the products of our factories, enables their f output to be increased, their plant and machinery to be worked to greater capacity, and ultimately the number of persons employed in them to be increased. I feel that it is the duty of every New Zealander to co-operate in this task of providing and creating work for their less fortunate fellow-members of the community,by purchasing New Zealand goods on every possible occasion. I trust, therefore, that the people of Dunedin will assist in making your “ Made in New Zealand Week” successful from every point of view. Minister of industries and Commerce.
