“FINIS TO CAPONE”
GANG LEADER’S FURY
VANCOUVER, May 6,
Roundly abusing reporters who sought to interview him on the dismissal of his appeal, Al. Capone said: “Want to take me for a ride some more, eh? Well, I’m not talking! ” Trembling with rage, Capone’s face was a sickly purple and his body distorted by his great weight, which during his stay of more than a year at the Cook County Gaol has increased to 2751 b. He was about to leave on his dreary journey to Leavenworth penitentiary. “That’s the end of three bitter years for us, and I believe finis for Capone,” said the prosecutor, Mr George Johnson.
Capone was not allowed to charter a private car for his last ride. His travelling companions to Leavenworth in a closely-guarded coach were 16 common thieves, dope pedlars, and counterfeiters. Capone was handcuffed and placed under a special guard of three burly officers.
