BASKETBALL

TRAINING COLLEGE v. UNIVERSITY. Played on College court, the match between Training Lohege mid University provided some good basketball. University were the first to score, and for some time had the better of the game. University defence was then tried, but proved equal. College’s was the next score, I—l,1 —1, and from theu play livened up, and Miss Cowie added one for University. 2 —l. Mias Stuart immediately evened for College, 2 —2. College s defence was theu severely taxed, but succeeded in fending off three attacks, the fourth succeeding. University 3, College 2. Miss Ramsay evened. 3—3, College attacks for a while were close in, but failed to finalise, and University got their fourth first. 4—3. College shortly again drew even. 4—4. Neither team in the first half showed its lop form, aud the spell ended: College 7 —5. With a good passing movement the ball ivent to University, and a goal was scored. The ball again went from centre to College goal, and Miss Stewart shot a good goal. The play then went to University, and there was a hard fight in University third. College, however, got the ball away, and another goal resulted. University again scored after a good pass. College retaliated with another score from Miss Benzoin, and still another by Miss Benzoni in less than a minute. College defence was sound, and saved time and time again. After five minutes of hard playing, Miss Stuart again scored for College. The play then went to University, but College defence was playing well, and the ball was centred. With an excellent pass from Misss Campbell, Miss Wilson scored for University with a good shot. With a clean, passing movement the ball went to College, and Miss Stewart scored a brilliant goal from a difficult position. University retaliated with a score by Miss Cowie, and almost immediately Miss Stewart scored again. Again University scored, and play went to College. From a free pass, Miss Ramsay shot at goal for College. University scored again, and as a final Miss Stewart scored for College. The game ended with the scores: — College 13 University U ALBANY I v. ALBANY 11. The first spell in the game between Albany I and Albany II was very evenly contested, with the seconds fighting every inch of the way. The score at half time was 7 —3 in the first’s favour, but should have been more even if the shoots had been on their game. The second spell was commenced with an attack by the first s, resulting in a goal, followed shortly afterwards with two more. The seconds now attacked in determined fashion, a goal resulting. The game was not by any brilliant play, although the first mostly held the upper hand. The score was now 12—5 in the first’s favour, but the second's recovered well, aud scored two goals in succession. The game at this stage became interesting, both sides playing good basket ball. The first’s, having a small lead of three goals, livened up. and scored several more. The final whistle went with the score:— Albany I '9 Albany II 12 Mr M'Farlanc was referee. SECOND GRADE.
