SATURDAY’S MATCHES TRAINING COLLEGE v. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS. Training College secured a victory over Technical Old Boys on Oval No. 1 on Saturday alter a game which was fairly evenly contested. College took up the attack from the commencement of play, and it was not long before they had an opportunity to score, Turbitt sending in a nice shot. The Technical forwards took charge for the next few moments and drove through the College defence for L. Silver to score. College again attacked, and after some keen play in Technical’s circle Cannon put his side ahead. Play was fast up and down the field until Turb'tt took the ball away, and the College forwards went through to score again. The Technical forwards initiated a passing rush which took play to the College circle, and L. Silver scored again. Technical kept up the pressure, and the ball did not leave the College territory for some time, the scores being equalled as a result of a nice piece of play. Technical continued to break up all College movements, and finally succeeded in breaking through the defence for L. Silver to put his side in the lead. Half time was called with the scores; Technical Old Boys 4 goals. Training College 3. Even play was witnessed for some time after the commencement of the second spell. College secured a corner, and there was some close play on the greasy surface of the Technical circle,- but the goalie was equal to the occasion. College made another effort, which was rewarded with success, Arnold sending in a scoring shot from a difficult angle. Further sallies by the College forwards kept flic Technical defence busy for a time, and eventually B'lakio succeeded in bringing the College total to five. The College forwards returned to the attack, and met with strong opposition from the Technical backs, and several Technical movements were spoiled by infringements. There was some interesting play in the College half, and Technical had one or two openings, of which advantage was not taken. Just before the end of the gaiqe the College forwards again broke through, and Turbitt scored. The final scores were; Training College .. .. 6 goals. Technical Old Boys .. 4 goals. ALBANY v. BALCLUTHA. Albany and Balclutha met on O’al No. 3, which was not in the best of condition. The visitors did not come up to the form shown by Albany, and the Dunedin players secured a victory by the comfortable margin of 8 goals to nil. From the initial bully Albany attacked, but were sent back by Holden. Offside play, gave the Beds a chance to clear. Dey took play to the Whites’ twenty-five, where he sent over a good centre to Ward, who just missed. Baxter received from the twenty-five, and, after getting as far as the Reds’ circle, lost possession. Frost cleared to Dey, who in turn passed to Thompson, who carried on to score a good goal. From the bully Albany attacked strongly. Thompson, following in fast, scored his second goal. Albany were having the best of exchanges, and Densem gave sticks while attempting a shot. The Beds were not to be denied, and E. Bennick found the net with a good shot. The Balclutha goalie was playing a good game, but the Reds kept at it, and Thompson put in a fast shot, giving the keeper no chance. The second half opened with Balclutha on the defence, and Thompson scored again. The ground was too slippery to allow pood hockey to be played. The ■Red forwards started passing, and K Bennick was unlucky with a good shot. A corner resulted, and Densem scored. Thompson added still another goal to the score. Clulha attacked strongly from the bnllv, and gained a corner, winch proved fruitless. Albany again took a turn at attack, and. after some patchy play. Thompson added another goal. The game ended with the scores: Albany , Balclutha Messrs C. Sew Hoy and W. Hewitt were referees. HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS v. UNIVERSITY B. High School Old Boys defeated University B on Oval No. 2 after a game which was not improved by the condition of the ground. Old Boys attacked from the beginning. but University’s defence was sure. After a few minutes’ play, however, Martin netted a good shot. From the bnllv Old Boys again attacked, but Byers, University full-back, cleared well to his forwards, who, however, did not finish off their effort. Old Boys were awarded successive penalty corners, but failed to score from them. Just before half time Gallon, following in, flicked the ball into the net. _ . On resuming, University took up the attack, but Hanning consistenty proved a stumbling block to their efforts. Botting, with a back bit, eventually succeeded in finding the net. Old Boys again took up the offensive, but were penalised for sticks. From the free hit University secured possession, and from a scramble scored again. Old Boys now made every effort to get in the lead, and, after a good passing rush, Martin again netted. Play now became very keen, the ball travelling up and down the field. When time was called the scores were:— High School Old Boys 3 goals. University B 2 goals. Messrs W. M’Queen and A. Chapman were referees. UNIVERSITY A v. CITY. University A played City at Logan Park, the ground being in very poor order. The University form was too good for City, and the game ended with the scores; University A G goals. City Nil. SECOND GRADE. Technical Old Boys B G, University D Training College B 2, High School Old Bovs Cl. High School Old Boys B 3, Albany B nil. 1 University C 5, Caversham Presbyterians nil. LADIES’ GAMES OTAGO v. MOMONA. Playing on Logan Park, Otago and Momona provided a good exhibition of the game. Otago attacked from the initial bully, but good back play kept them out. Play wont up and down field at a great pace, and from a melee in the circle Otago scored. Play continued fast, and half time went. Otago 1 up. Momona attacked, then Otago took a turn, but offside play was spoiling their efforts. Momona gave the Otago backs plenty to do, but near the end Otago forced the pace ami gave the Momona defence a busy time. The game ended: Otago 1 goal. Momona Nil. Mr D. Miller was referee. UNIVERSITY v. TECHNICAL OLD GIRLS IT. University met Technical IT on the Oval. The Bines made play fast, and kept Technical on defence. The half time score was 6 to 1 in University’s favour. The University forwards were proving too fast for the Technical rearguard, who were playing a good spoiling game. The Technical forwards did pot go too well together. but the game was not so one-sided as the scores indicate. The game ended: University H Technical Old Girls II .. J Mr J. Gray was referee. DUNEDIN v. TECHNICAL OLD GIRLS I. Technical Old Girls I met Dunedin at Logan Park. From the bully off both sets of backs were kept busy defending. Dunedin scored from a scramble. Technical forwards started a good passing rush and from a good centre the centre forward made no mistake. Both teams strove hard to got the lead, and Miss Benfell cleared well on two occasions, and half time was called with the score 1 all. Technical started off well, and the Dunedin centre-half was their stumbling block. Not to be denied, Technical scored after a nice piece of passing. Both teams played
