TRADE WITH CANADA
TREATY BILL PASSED SURVIVES ATTACK IN SENATE (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) OTTAWA, May 13, (Received May 15, at 5.5 p.m.) The New Zealand Trade Treaty Bill was subjected to*a general attack in the Senate to-day, several Opposition members criticising it for “ instability,” lack of preferences for • Canadian products, and failure to protect woolgrowers, but the measure was adopted Without amendments, and given Royal assent. The Government leader (Mr Arthur Meighan), sponsoring the Bill, said that he believed its adoption by Parliament would have a beneficial influence on the atmosphere of the economic conference. The proclamation bringing the treaty into effect will be promulgated on a date suitable to New Zealand.
