SEVENTY YEARS MARRIED
A UNIQUE ANNIVERSARY An event which is claimed to be unique in-the history of New Zealand -will be observed , to:day, when .Mr .^and...Mr* Alexander '(bitten 'St. Kildaj^illcelhlffate the fsevdtttieth anniversary of their marriage, which took place at East ,Taieri ori May 13, 1802. ■ The cerembriy was.-hejd at the residence of the bride’s parents, Mr and Mrs Alexander Peat, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. W. Will. Mr Kilgour’s* age'is 92 years, and that 'Of his wife is 86 years. •_ Mr Kilgour was born at Leslie, Fifeshire, Scotland, in November, 1839, and was a lad of 17 years when he came to Otago in 1856 in the ship Sir Paget. He has ’ been in since, with the exception of a Short period in 1861, when he went to Victoria. On his return he carried on his ; trade iof * a baker ’’at I ;''.different centres—Dunedin, Waikbuaiti, Balcliitha, Oamaru, and Alexandra, and in 1904 he retired and settled at St. Kilda.
Mrs -Kilgour was born at Auchtermuchty, Fifeshire, Scotland, and arrived iii OtagoX in 11860 in. the ship Pladda. Her father took up land at East Taieri, in what fs noW'iknown as the fiiccarton district. ' ■ ’• -
Mr and Mrs Kilgour had a family of It), of whom three sons and two daughters are still alive—Alexander (Sydney), William (Christchurch), David: (Dunedin), Mrs William Reid (West /Taieri), and Mrs H. Laing (Gtautau) . Robert, another son, lost his life at the landing on Gallipoli in 1916. Mr and Mrs Kilgour still, enjoy excellent health.
