PIGEON FLYING

The last of a series of three single bird interval races was flown from Ashburton last Saturday by the Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club. These races are included in the race programme to encourage birds to fly independently, each bird liberated at given intervals. Thirteen birds were entered for this race, and from the times recorded each must have tackled the journey on its own. The winner timed in at 3 19 p.m., flyinp: the 153 miles to its loft in 3hr 59min. The first five places in the race were filled as follow:—W Hams s Ladv Monowai, 1116.6,1; J. Lynn’s Presto, 1079.0, 2; H. Millard’s Stardust. 1050.4, 3; J)/ Echo, 1023*7, 4; T. Douglas's Gunner, 1022.5, 5.
