AGRICULTURAL CLUBS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION, A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Otago Agricultural Clubs’ Association was held yesterday afternoon in the Otago Expansion League rooms, the president (Mr O. R. Smith) being in the chair. The chairman welcomed to the meeting as a member of the executive Mr J, M*K. Miller, ex-president of the Southland Association, The organising secretary (Mr J, E. Davies, of the Department of Agriculture) reported that for this season 311 entries had been received for the cropgrowing competition, 135 for calf rearing, and 85 girls had entered for the fruit and vegetable preserving competitions, A letter was received from the Otago A. and P. Association regarding club sections at the forthcoming Winter Show, and a comprehensive draft was drawn up covering all sections of club work. Mr E. 8. Green, of the Education Department, moved that all records In the show should be judged on the following basis:—Summary, 10 points; drawings, graphs, etc,, 10; descriptive essay, 20. Carried. Mr L. W. M’Caskill, of the Dunedin Training College, recommended that the calf-rearing records be judged in a somewhat similar manner, thus:—Summary of costs, 10 points; drawings, graphs, etc., 10; descriptive essay, 20.—Adopted. The resignation was received of Mr H. Turner, who reeentjy left for England, and was accepted with regret, Mr R. Fountain, of the Department of Agriculture, reported on the calf-rearing competition, and said that the recent judging had shown a great improvement of the standard of work over recent years, and it was evident that more interest was being taken in the competition by tho supervisors, teachers, and parents. Considerable discussion took place regarding the final championship calf parade to be held at the Winter Show, and it was reported that 31 members had qualified for this event. The following donations were acknowledged:—Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, £3 3s; Dunedin Stock Agents’ Association. £3 3s; Otago Daily Times Company. £2 2s; Otago Education Board, £7 10s; Otago Education Institute, £3 3s; North Otago Fanners’ Union. £5 ss; North Otago A. and P. Association, £2 2s; Stirling Coop. Dairy Company, £1 Is; Wnitaki Dairy, Company, Ltd!. f3;-tptal, £3O 9s The treasurer (Mr M Caskill) reported that the association was now in a sound financial position.
