SYDNEY ROYAL SHOW

ELABORATE PREPARATIONS 1 RECORD ENTRIES EXPECTED •One of the outstanding events to be held in conjunction with the ' official opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge on March 19 will be the Royal Agricultural Show of New South Wales. In view of the big influx of overseas and inter-State visitors who will take part in the celebrations, a special effort has been made to stage a show worthy ,bf the occasion, and the preparations that have already been made are an indication that in future years recollections of the Harbour Bridge celebrations will be inevitably associated with the Royal Show. On the first night of the show, March 21, a military and naval display will be presented, and on the afternoon of Wednesday, the official opening day, there will be a spectacular musical ride on horseback by the Mounted Police. A field battery display will be the concluding item on Easter Saturday night. Leading axemen and sawyers from New Zealand, Tasmania and the Australian States will compete in a championship tree felling competition, and a number of other wood chopping and sawing contests will be held. , In the show itself record entries are, anticipated in every section, and indeed all previous figures for wheat have been smashed. In 1929, when there were 16 classes for competition the record number of 229 entries was received. This year, when there are. only 12 classes, the total entries are 239, representing growers fnoxn Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales. Eight entries have been received for the New South Wales champion prize for weak flour wheat, and 35 for the Commonwealth champion prize _ ■ for medium strong wheat. The two special classes included this year for growers who intended competing at the Regina (Canada) Grain. Exhibition have 21 entries in the medium strong elasaand 17 in the strong wheat class. The class for strong flour wheat confined to competitors in these competitions has 37 entries, and a similar class for weak flour wheat has 16. In the 1 three classes for fat lamb carcasses for export, 20 entries have been received as against 10 last year. There are also good prospects for a considerable increase in the membership roll of the society, new members coming from all the States in the .Commonwealth as well as New Zealand and far-distant Fiji. It is also expected that this year’s cattle show should exceed all previous exhibits as a number of well known studs that have not before shown in Sydney are forwarding animals. The commercial display will be another strong feature and every foot of available space will be occupied.
