THE POSEIDON HERO

PETTY OFFICER WILLIS , DECORATED BY THE KING. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 23. (Received Feb. 24, at 5.5 p.m.) The 'King held the first investiture of the year at Buckingham Palace today, and among those decorated was Chief Petty Officer Willis, who received the Albert Medal for great heroism displayed in the Poseidon submarine disaster. After the ceremony Willis had a private audience with the King, who talked with him for several minutes. Large-crowds cheered Willis as he left the Palace. The official description of his deed recalls how he ordered the men to put on the escape apparatus, kept up their spirits, and, by confidence, ability, and power of command in a desperate situation saved many lives.
