FLOCK HOUSE
EXTENSION OF SCHEME I QUESTION OF FINANCE (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., February 24. Evidence of the desire for an extension of the Flock House scheme for the purpose of the training and after-care of the sons of New Zealand ex-soldiers in lieu of the former system of taking drafts of war orphaned dependents of British seamen was revealed at a conference held to-day at Flock House. Patriotic Associations and Returned Soldiers’ Associations from as far north as Auckland and as far south as Otago were represented and took part in thee discussions concerning the desirability of using the institution for this purpose. Consideration was also given to the cost of maintenance of New Zealand boys and the method of providing the necessary finance. Eventually it was agreed “that this conference agrees to accept the offer of the Flock House trustees and recommends that the finance be on population basis and that to this end a central committee, consisting of representatives of .the War Funds’ Council (one), R.S.A. (three), Patriotic** Associations (three), and a chairman be set up with provincial and district branches to explore ways and means of providing finance and to arrange allocations. In the event of any district not being able to provide either finance or boys the allocation shall be proportionate over the whole of the Dominion.”
The report is to be submitted to the trustees of Flock House on or before March 31. ■
