PALMERSTON NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, February 24. To-day, at a gathering in the Palmerston District High School’s grounds, the local citizens bade farewell to the rector (Mr Archibald Thomson), who during his term of office here, has accomplished so much for the district. His work and bearing have'earned him the respect both of his pupils and their parents, and in presenting him with a handsome travelling rug the Mayor (Mr W, H. Hopkins), expressed regret at losing Mr Thomson. Dr Thomas, Mr M'Knight, the 'Rev. Mr Chisholm, Mr Matheson and Mr Swinton endorsed the Mayor’s remarks. In replying, Air Thomson said he regretted leaving the town, but he hoped to be hack jn the near future.
