In the afternoon further sectional play took place, those remaining in the event being transferred after the third round to the Christchurch Green, where the eliminating rounds were played. The competitors still in the running, each with one life, are J. Scott (Caledonian), W. Foster (Caledonian), J. J. Hinchcliff (Caledonian), C. E. Tyrrell (Roslyn), and M. Routley (Kelburn), Only four greens were in use, and, as on the first day, they played excellently. Chief interest centred in the games on the green where the “ two-lifers,” the players who had come through their sections without defeat on Monday, were matched against one another. At other greens the players who had suffered one loss on the first day engaged in successive rounds, and the spectators wore treated to some exceptionally fine exhibitions.

The post-sectional game's provided an exhibition of bowling such as Christchurch witnesses but once every four years. /The Auckland and Dunedin representatives, dominated the play, and it seems obvious' that the title will again go to Otago. Scott played brilliantly against Routley, the board showing 24 to 11 when the game ceased. The Dunedin man indulged in an occasional drive, and each one was directed with deadly precision. Scott’s chance of repeating his 1928 success looks particularly bright. Hinchcliff created a sensation when he beat Walker, and he maintained this form when he encountered Scott in the next round, scoring a handsome win. The game between Tyrrell and Bremner was a battle of tactics, the Aucklander favouring “ baby ” heads and the Dunedin player throwing the jack to the limit whenever he iiad the opportunity. The scores fluctuated, and at one stage it looked as though Bremner might emerge the winner.’ On the sixteenth head he essayed a drive, and left Tyrrell lying 4. The latter maintained his advantage to the last head, Bremner missing another drive to go down by two. Routley proved too strong for C. Hardley. Both players stuck religiously to the draw, and they built up some very fine heads.

The defeat of Scott was totally unexpected, but Hinchcliff was in the ascendancy from the outset, and had Scott sending down fast ones, which were of no advantage to the driver. The remaining matches for the Singles Championship will he played as the competitors concerned become available by their elimination from or the completion of other events in the tournament. A start will he made to-morrow in the sectional play for the Pairs Championship. three games being played of 21 beads or 2? hours, whilst on Thursday two games will be proceeded with, thus completing the section programme. Section winners should be found by Thursday night. The rinks will start on Friday for four clays.
