WHEAT QUOTA SYSTEM

PROPOSALS IN BRITAIN 8 E VERA L MODI FI CAT lONS. (British* Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 11. (Received Jan. 12, at 5.5 p.m.) It is understood that in their modified form, the Government proposals for the establishment of a wheat quota system will be acceptable to the various interests concerned/ The Minister of Agriculture (Sir John Gilmour) will meet representatives of farmers, millers, merchants, and flour importers to discuss the matter to-morrow. Such alterations as have been made in the original proposals do not affect the Government’s basic principle of a guaranteed market for millable wheat at an enhanced price. If an agreement is reached as the outcome of to-morrow’s conference the Government will probably introduce a Bill soon after Parliament reassembles.
