PRESIDENT HOOVER
RENOMINATION OPPOSED THE POSSIBLE CANDIDATES (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, December 29. The Republican Independents are seriously considering a third party movement in 1932 in the event of the Republican and Democratic conventions failing to nominate a man to their liking. The group comprises Senate Independents, and it is opposed to the renomination of President Hoover. Conferences have been going on with the object of finding a man to contest President Hoover’s renomination, but no single candidate lias been agreed upon. Senator Norris (Nebraska) has been asked to stand against President Hoover, but he has declined. Senator Norris, however, is definitely understood to be ready to support any of the four candidates under consideration. If a third party is organised ho is looked upon, together with Senator Borah, as a likely head of the ticket. Possible candidates are Senator Borah, Senator Johnson (California), and Senator Pinchot (Pennsylvania), Privately it is intimated that none of the potential Democratic candidates, with the possible exception of Governor Roosevelt (New York), is acceptable. Senator Borah has always stood by the Republican Party, but he lias been in frequent conflict with the Hoover policies, principally on the tariff and farm relief.
