ST. KILDA BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last evening! In the absence of the Mayor (Mr J. Beattie), who is indisposed, the Deputymayor (Mr H. H. Leary) presided, and the following were present:—Crs C. Conn, T. D. B. Roy, J. A. Carman, G. Glue, W. G. Baird, G. Stratton, A. D. Edgar, and R. Telfer. A letter was received from the Unemployment Board advising that work under the 4a scheme had been resumed. The borough foreman reported that during the fortnight ended on September 12 several streets and footpaths had been repaired. A quantity of rock had been carted to Victoria road, and Royal crescent had received attention. The plant was in good order. About 150 unemployed men had been engaged in attending to lawns and forming footpaths.—The report was adopted.

The traffic and sanitary inspector reported that 14 drivers’ licenses had been issued, four new drivers tested, and one license granted for a one-ton vehicle. Traffic duty had been carried out daily. Fifty-nine house inspections had been made, and sanitary conditions inspected. Two hawkers’ licenses had been issued, and one building permit granted.—The report was adopted.
