ALEXANDRA NOTES

(From Odb Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, September 21. The weather for the last few days has been delightful, and the fruit trees are now coming into flower. The orchardists are extremely anxious lest they should lose the result of their year’s labour in one night through a frost. There is still a fair coating of snow on the mountains. POST AND TELEGRAPH REUNION. The first reunion held by the Central Otago members of the Post and Telegraph Department was held on Saturday evening at Alexandra. A hard-working committee had the function running in an. excellent manner. Mr E. H. Patton (postmaster, Omakau) presided over a large attendance, every office in Central Otago being represented. The chairman, in his opening remarks, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors from Dunedin, Mr H. H. Brown (the Dominion organiser for the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association), Mr J. Ritchie (chairman of the Vincent County Council), and the Mayors of Cromwell and Queenstown. Mr Ritchie proposed the toast of “ The Post and Telegraph Department,” and in doing so said he recognised the great service the Post and Telegraph Department gave to the Dominion., In his own particular district the department’s officers were extremely obliging, and at no hour of the day or night was it too much trouble for them to oblige a .settler in the backblocks. He congratulated the department on inaugurating the rural delivery system, which was of inestimable value to the settlers. Mr Ritchie urged the young officers of the department to guard the high traditions of the department. Mr A. S, Powley (postmaster, Clyde) responded to the toast. A number of other toasts was honoured, and during the evening musical items were rendered by Messrs W. Smith, W. Behrens, 0. F. May, and W. Nicolson. ACCIDENT,

An accident occurred last evening on the Earnscleugh road, when two motor cyclists, Messrs C. and M. M'Ginnis, sons of Mr and Mrs M. P. M'Ginnis (Earnscleugh), each had a leg broken through coming into collision with a motor cyclist who had got into difficulties with his lights. The two injured men were immediately removed to the Dunstan Hospital.
