ROWING

CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 21. At a meeting of the Wellington Amateur Rowing Association to-night delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Council were instructed to vote against the proposal of Auckland to hold the Dominion championship regatta at Hamilton on January 29. There wag no objection to the venue, hut the date was opposed; first, because it was too soon after the Christmas holidays; and secondly, it was ultra vires, in that the rules state that the regatta must not be held before January 31. A suggestion was made that the interprovincial eight-oared regatta should be held each year on a fixed date, preferably at Easter. A recommendation is to be made to the New Zealand Council to this end.
