The seven-a-side Rugby tournament organised by the South Otago School Sports Association was held at Balclutha yesterday in changeable, weather, snow showers alternating with rain and rare intervals of sunshine. Notwithstanding the inclement conditions there was a very fair attend ance of spectators. Fourteen teams competed, and the general organisation, under the direction of Mr W. H. Henderson, wais excellent. A good standard of football was seen throughout the day, and the various coaches are to be congratulated. At the close of the tournament the president of the association (Mr G. H. Mitchell) thanked all who had helped to make the tournament a success. Messrs Lyall and M‘Noe (members of the South Otago Subunion) presented the medals to the successful players as follows; —A Grade winners; —Kaitangata A—A. Bowmar, A Forrester, C. Spiers, B. Hale, W. Anderson, H. Mackie, A. Grimshaw. B Grade: Otanomomo —W. Shaw, C. Glover, A. Mar-

The following are the detailed results: — A Grade.—First round: Owaka 12 v. Clutha B nil, Clutha A 12 v. Kaitangata B nil, Kaitangata A 19 v. Toko B nil, Toko A 23 y. Clutha 0 nil. Second round: Clutha A 15 v. Toko B nil, Kaitangata A 18, v. Clutha B nil, Toko A 16 v. Kaitangata B 3, Owaka 15 v. Clutha C nil. Semi-final: Clutha A 12 v. Owaka nil, Kaitangata A 5 t. Toko A nil. Final: Kaitangata A 9 v. Clutha A 5. K'aitangata started strongly and soon rattled up nine points. Clutha then made a determined effort to equalise, but their opponents were always a little too good. B Grade.—First round: Greenfield 5 v. Kakapuaka 3, Lovell's Flat 5 v. Waiwera 3, Otanomomo 20 v, Benhar nil. Second round: Lovell’s. Flat 6, Kakapuaka nil, Otanomomo 15 v. Greenfield nil, Waiwera 13 v. Benhar nil. Semi-final: Otanomomo 12 v. Waiwera nil, Greenfield 6 v. Lovell’s Flat 3. Final: Otanomomo 13 v. Greenfield nil. Bright football was seen in the final, which wqp played in a snowstorm. Otanomomo was too fast and clever for its lighter opponents and won comfortably. This team scored 60 points during the day without having its line crossed once. ■ SUB-UNION FIXTURES. Senior matches on Saturday resulted as follow: —Clinton 24, Toko B 3; Toko A 5, Owaka nil. Star defaulted to Crescent. Juniors. —South Otago High School 9, Clutha 3; Toko 6, Crescent nil. The referees for Saturday next are; — Clutha v. Toko A, at Milton, Mr Wightman; Clinton v. Crescent, at Kaitangata, Mr Scott; Toko B v. Owaka, at Owaka, Mr Fraser; Toko v. Clutha Juniors, at Balclutha, at 1.30, Mr Lennox; , Crescent v. High School, at Balclutha, at 3 p.m., Mr Whelan. PERSONAL. The Rev. Robert Blair (lately from America, and formerly of Tuapeka Mouth) has accepted the charge of the Owaka Presbyterian Church for three months, and will commence his ministration next Sunday. * Mr James Crutchley, a local fat stock buyer for Sims, Cooper and Co., will leave to-morrow for Australia, where he will engage in lamb buying for the next four months before returning to New Zealand, PARETAI FACTORY. The Paretai dairy factory, which has been sending the butter-fat from suppliers to one of the Dunedin butter factories during the winter months will resume of cheese this week. WINTRY WEATHER. After a week of good weather, conditions changed drastically on Saturday, when snow fell on all the surrounding hill country. At Hillend the depth of the snowfall was Sin. The snow was followed by rain and sleet, and none lay on (jie flats. Yesterday and to-day the weather was very: cold, wind and rain, with occasional sleet showers, combining to remind everyone that winter is ,still with us.
