A PENALTY ON THRIFT

ro THE EDITOR. Sir, —Will you inform me whether, if a man, who had, say, £2OO, in - the Savings Bank, and was refused relief workon this account, were to withdraw, this sura and buy a section with it, he would then be entitled to work under, the Unemployment Board? If such is the case, it seems as if it encourages those who have saved a little to spend as fast as they can the nest egg which they were saving for a rainy day or for sickness. It looks to me as if the effect will then be only to increase unemployment.—l am, etc., G. W. Kent. Milton, July 14. [The question is a pertinent one which only the Unemployment Board can answer.—Ei>. O.D.TJ
