A POPULAR SCHOOL TEACHER
Prior to her departure from Teaueraki School, Enfield, Miss R. M. Doak received several recognitions of her valuable services as a teacher and for her assistance in the district activities.
A large gathering of parents and friends met in the Enfield Hall to honour her at a social and dance. The chairman of the School Committee (Mr W. Rowland) presided, and praised Miss Doak highly, while the headmaster (Mr R. N. Finlay) also spoke and referred in glowing terms to the efficient state of her work. The chairman then presented Miss Doak with a ladies’ Handbag of soft fawn leather and a manicure set. _ After musical honours. Miss Doak suitably replied. At an evening given by , the Enfield Church Choir. Miss Doak was made the recipient of a piece of Haramersley ware in recognition of service rendered. !■» Before Miss Doak relinquished her duties at the school, the staff and pupils assembled to do honour to their departing teacher. After a short programme of items by the scholars, Miss Edna Joiner asked Miss Doak to accept, with the good will of the pupils, a portable electric reading lamp. One of her pupils, Master J. Goughian, also presented Miss Doak with a dainty Alsatian dog in china as a token of good luck from her class. Miss J. 0. Kidd (mistress) and Mr R. N. sFinlay briefly expressed the regret of all concerned at Mise Doak’s departure from the school, but, nevertheless, conveyed to her the best of good wishes in her new position and future work. Miss Doak has been apponted an assistant in the Oamaru South School.
