(Peg United Press Association.) TAIHAPE, June 16. A young man, of good appearance and plausible address, aged 24, Phillip Augustus Kesler, alias Gesler Phillip, was charged to-day before justices of the peace with being an idle ami disorderly person, and also with travelling on the .train from Palmerston North to Taihape without paying his fare. The bench said the accused’s statement was a string of lies, and on the first charge sentenced him to one month in gaol, and on the second 1 charge ordered him to repay the fare, in default 14 days in gaol. WELLINGTON, June 16. A workman, H. S. Tennant, to-day claimed £93 18s from Jenkins and Mack, Ltd., in respect of injuries received when he was struck by a chisel which fell 100 feet from a plumber above at the New Commercial Travellers’ Club building. Mr E. Page, S.M., classed the accident as similar to the spilling of a cup of tea or an ink bottle—one of those accidents liable to happen at any time, and not necessarily entailing negligence. He did not think there was any negligence on the part of the contractors, of their servant, and gave judgment for the defendant firm. HOKITIKA, June 16. Mr Justice Adams presided in the Supreme Court yesterday. George Andrews, convicted of an indecent act, thereby insulting a young girl, was admitted to probation for four years with special conditions.
