OTAGO RUGBY UNION

WEEKLY MEETING The weekly meeting of the committee of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night. The president (Mr S. G. Styche) occupied the chair. The secretary of the North Otago Union wrote confirming September 20 as the date of the match against an Otago representative team at Dunedin. It was decided that a member of the Selection Committee should act as manager of the Otago team which is to play Southland at Invercargill on Wednesday, July 1. The team will leave for Invercargill on Tuesday evening, June 30. _ The secretary of the Eastern Districts Sub-union wrote confirming September 5 as the date of the match at Palmerston against an Otago junior representative team. The secretary of the South Canterbury Union wrote stating that on account of the depleted finances and the difficulty of getting leave for players to tour his union would be unable to send a team to play at Dunedin on Wednesday, August 12. —The letter was received, and it was decided to inform the Canterbury Union that if August 12 was a more suitable date for the playing of the Payne Shield match at Christchurch than August 5 the Otago Union would be agreeable to a change of date. The chairman congratulated Mr A. M'Donald on his appointment as one of the two selectors for the Dominion, Mr M'Donald will select the South Island team and Mr E. M'Kenzie (Wairarapa) the North Island team for the interisland match. The two selectors will also pick the New Zealand team to play against Australia in the test game. J. O’Reilly, hon. secretary of the Dunedin Football Club, wrote stating that University had fielded only four players in the Third Grade match against Dunedin, and that the game could not therefore be played.—lt was decided to ask the University Club for an explanation. It was also decided to ask the University Club why its C team defaulted on Saturday. * GATE RECEIPTS. The secretary (Mr E, S. Wilson) reported that the receipts from the match at Chrisbrook amounted to £IBB 2s 6d, and that the receipts from all matches came to £199 17s 6d. NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITIES TEAM. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 15. The New Zealand Universities team returned from Sydney to-day. The manager, Mr Petrie, interviewed, said the team came right up to expectations and created an excellent impression. The Australians were looking forward to the coming Rugby tour of New Zealand, and there was every indication that a strong team would make the trip. He added that the Australians were very peeved at the return to international rules. They believe that the dominions will never be allowed to carry much weight on the International Board.
