FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

FORESTERS. C.R., Bro. R. Brown presided over a full attendance of officers and members of Court Excelsior, No. 6128, A.0.F., in St. Mary’s Hall, Alornington. A resolution was passed endorsing the secretary’s action in forwarding a letter of sympathy to P.C.R. Bro. J. T. Wilson in his recent bereavement, members standing in silence. Bro. A. J. Morrison wrote that he would present the winner of the euchie tournament (now in progress) with a water colour painting. Invitations from Court Pride of the Leith to a hard-up night and Court Pride of Dunedin to a waltzing competition were accepted. P.C.K. Bro. Hodgkiuson and S. W. Bro. J. C. S. Al'Alinn were appointed as delegates to attend the meeting in regard to 'a combined Foresters’ ball. The District Executive, represented by D.C.R. Bro. J H. Reynolds and I.P.D.C.R. Bro. G. L. Walmsley, attended officially. D.C.R. Bro. J. H. Reynolds congratulated the court on its good muster. I.P.D.C.R. Bro. G. L. Walmsley, in replying, mentioned that the D.E. was present to make the presention of the James Macfie Memorial Scholarship prize to Master Alan Russell. Bro. Walmsley congratulated the court on the fact that this was the fourth year in succession that a child of a member of Court Excelsior had won the prize. P.C.R. Bro. Blackie reported on a visit to Court Woodlands Pride. At the close of the meeting the juvenile branch entered officially. The C.R. welcomed ci.e boys on behalf of _ the adult court. I. Bro. 0. Sainsbury replied on behalf of the juvenile branch. D.C.R. Bro. J. H. Reynolds then presented Master Russell with the James Macfie Memorial Scholarship prize, and in doing so heartily congratulated him on his fine selection of books. I.P.D.C.R. Bro. G. L. Walmsley wished Master Russell every success. Bro. D. Russell replied on behalf of his son. An informal game of cards followed.
