CATHOLIC DOCTRINE

THE M'KENZIE CAIRN

ro rim Kiinoa Sib, —I would like to express a wish that the honour of unveiling the M Kenzie Monument on Mount Puketapu, 1 alnierston, sliould fall to the lot of the Prime Minister, Mr Forbes. If he could find the time to do so, it would be very appropriate and very fitting. Sir John M'Kenzie, from the top of Puketapu, first visioned and afterwards when Minister of Lands inaugurated, a land policy and settlement scheme that was largely responsible for the great prosperity and progress which New Zealand enjoyed tor over 30 years. Under his scheme the present Prime Minister was one of the first settlers, and still is, and all through his long career in Parliament he has been a champion and upholder of Sir John’s land policy, and now has risen to the highest position in New Zealand —that of Prime Minister. I sincerely hope Mr Forbes can come, and I also hope that when ho is up in that clear atmosphere on the dizzy - heights of Puketapu, he may receive a further inspiration from Sir Johh. and be able to see through the mists of depression, as Sir John did years ago, and, like him, formulate a policy that will dig New Zealand out of its present depression, and give it an era of prosperity similar to that which followed from the great land policy inaugurated by Sir John M'Kenzie. —I am, etc., Dinna Forget.
