THOSE EVENING GLOVES
Gloves and mittens are no longer a novelty; they have become a regular part of the formal evening toilette, and must, as such, be treated seriously. Until recently it was sufficient merely to wear gloves of the stereotyped kind to pass muster, but now one must wear the right gloves and wear them in the right way if one is to be above criticism. When choosing gloves for evening wear remember the following points;— 1. That very ornamental gloves look well only on plain dresses. 2. That many of the smartest women in Paris are wearing yery long, plain gloves in flesh-coloured suede—rucked to such an extent that they do not reach the elbow—with all types of evening drees. 3. That gloves of a shade violently contrasting with the dress are not so well liked as earlier in the season, though coloured shoes are still good style. 4. That gloves of suede are preferred by really elegant women to those made of the same material as the drees. Mittens, on the contrary, should match the dress in fabric and treatment to be really chic. The extreme slimness demanded by the mode leaves many women with the kind of arms that look best in really long gloves. These long, gloves are apt to slip down and be a constant source of annoyance unless some device for keeping them in place is used. For ordinary gloves one can get open bangles that clip round the upper arm over the top of the glove, but these are not successful on gloves that Wave the wide gauntlet top that is so fashionable.
