RIFLE SHOOTING

KIWI DEFENCE CLUB. The members of the Kiwi Defence Rifle Club fired the second competition of No. 6 match (10 shots and two sighters at 500 and 600 yards) last Saturday afternoon. Conditions generally were fair, although the cold wind and wet ground made shooting somewhat disagreeable. Some very good scores were registered, notably an outstanding performance by Rifleman H. Tattersfield, who compiled 97 out of a possible 100 (48, 49) —17 bulls and three inners. Next Saturday the third and final competition of this match will be fired. The following are the scores, with handicaps:—

TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB. On Saturday afternoon the Timaru Defence Rifle Club held its final shoot of the championship. The morning was wet and very cold, but by lunch time the rain had eased off leaving the afternoon very cold with occasional showers, and a southwest wind. The light was changeable, making the shooting very difficult. The ranges for the day were seven shots at 300, 500, and 600 yards, the last being a compulsory shoot to be added to the championship scores. There were 38 riflemen competing and some brilliant shooting was recorded. This was the shoot set aside for the Veterans’ Volunteer Cup, the highest scorer off the rifle for the three ranges to hold the cup for the ensuing 12 months. This was won by Rifleman W. Bradshow, and the championship was won by Rifleman I. A. Blackwood. W. Bradshaw was the winner of the Gold Rifle for the day, making a tie between Vice-president W. E. Jones, Rifleman C. Blackwood, and himself which will have to be shot off next week. The Bull’s Eye Competition was won by Rifleman C. Clackwood with 169 points. The following are the scores:—
