The Ville De Verdun arrived at Marseilles from Noumea after a voyage full of incident. Shortly after passing the Marquesas Islands the quartermaster went insane and killed the captain with a pistol. Later two men were lost overboard. Then towards the end of the voyage an S.O.S. from the Italian steamer Rnta brought the Ville De Verdun rushing to the rescue of her crew.
