RATING SYSTEMS
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — A comparison has been made in your columns of rating on rental value and unimproved value. I owned a house in the city on which 1 was charged £9 19s per year for rates, and tram fares going to and going home from business amounted to' 4s per week. lam now owning a house (with the usual “ monkey ” on it) that is valued at over £IOO more than that which I owned in the city. My rates are now just a few shillings over £0 per year, and the travelling to and from work is just Is 6d per week. I understand that there is a movement among some of the residents of Ravensbourne to secure amalgamation with the city, but I think that the _ workers of Ravensbourne know which side of their bread is buttered, and will oppose any amalgamation whilst rating on the present system is in operation in' Dunedin. —I am, etc., W- W. Batchelor. Ravensbourne, April 1.
