CITY POLICE COURT.

Friday, February 20. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.). UNLAWFULLY ON PREMISES. John Arthur Cyril Bond and Hugh M'Creadie, who were charged with being unlawfully on the premises of the Metropolitan Hotel, were each fined 20s, and costs (10s). John Shanks, who was found unlawfully in the Crown Hotel, was fined a similar amount. DRUNKENNESS. John James Jarvis pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness and entering the premises of his wife during the currency of a separation order. On the first charge he was fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment, and on the second he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. The magistrate warned Jarvis that if the second offence were repeated he would probably be sent to gaol. REMAND GRANTED. In the case of John Suttic M’lntosh, who was charged with failing to account for £1 to Electrolux. Ltd., a remand until Monday was granted. GROCERY STORES CHARGED. The Self-Help Company and Stai Stores. Ltd., who were charged with employing assistants after 1 p.m. on Saturday, were each convicted and ordered to pay costs (10s. ALLEGED IDLE AND DISORDERLY. Leslie William Gibbons and Basil Chares Gibbous, for whom Mr C. J. L. White appeared, were charged with being idle and disorderly in that they had insufficient lawful means of support and habitually consorted with reputed thieves. —Mr White asked for an adjournmentfor a week.—Chief Detective Cameron opposed the granting of bail. The two accused had induced a young man to drive them about and had asked him to stop at various places. He had heard two places broken into and had actually seen them break into one. They had left him to go to the house of Senor Squarise, but had come back, saying that they could not succeed in getting in as there were people about. L. W. Gibbons was known to be a master criminal of a desperate type, and had been seen with revolvers in his possession. The, other brother had come from the West Coast two months ago, and the men had been associating with thieves. L. W. Gibbons was on bail in connection with an appeal against a conviction. —The magistrate granted the adjournment, refusing bail. TRAFFIC BY-LAW CASES. Angus M'Donald was charged with being an unlicensed driver and with being in charge of an unlighted car.—On the first charge he was fined £2, and costs (10s), and on the second 10s, and costs (10s). Alexander Bedel Watt was fined 10s and costs (10s) for driving without a license. John Logan Milnes was fined £2 and costs (10s) for failing to give his name and .address to the other party concerned after a motor collision.—Senior Sergeant Quartermain said that the offence had been due to foolishness, as the defendant’s number could easily be seen.—“ Such an attitude is reprehensible, and must be checked,” said the magistrate. For leaving his car in Macandrew road in such a manner as to cause an obstruction, Ralph T. L. Cartwright was fined 10s and costs (10s). Edward Harwood was charged with driving an unregistered car and with driving without a license.—On the first charge he was fined 20s and costs (10s). and on the second £2 and costs (10s). Eric A. Scheib, who was charged with driving on the Peninsula road at a speed in excess of 20 miles an hour, as prescribed by the by-laws, was fined £2 and costs (12s). For parking cars not parallel with the direction of the street the following defendants were each fined 10s and costs (10s): —Kenneth Clarke, Walter J. Clarke, John Donaldson, Robert Thomas Duthie, Ralph Greene, Richard Hanson, Charles Hellyer, John M. S. Maearthur, Thomas Menzies, Laurence V. Mercier, Neil G. M*Kinnon, Noel A. M'Rae, Victor P. Nelson, William C. D. North, Donald G. Reid, John Swan, John F. Thomson, George E. Withers. For being in charge of unlighted cars and cycles, the following defendants were each fined 10s and costs (10s); —William Anderson Grieve, Edric John Liddell Kelly, George Keith Murdoch, Alfred M'Robie, and the Otago Motor Company. For leaving cars unattended for more than 15 minutes in city streets the following defendants were each fined 10s and costs (10s): —George M. Kinmont, Douglas M. Whitson, and Charles T. W. Wilson. On a similar charge, Frederick Baker was fined 20s and costs {10s). On a charge of leaving his vehicle to tout for passengers •in Anzac’ square, Joseph Anderson was fined £2 and costs (10s). A charge of leaving his car to ply for hire in Anzac square preferred against Vernon Parker was treated as technical, the defendant being convicted and discharged.

Thomas C. White was charged with using a motor 1 lorry without having a heavy traffic license.—The magistrate adjourned the case for a week to allow the dues to be paid, stating that if this were done it would have a bearing on the fine..
