PRICE OF BREAD.
NO REDUCTION AT PRESENT. SCALE PRICE OF WHEAT. (Per United Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, February 20. Replying’ to the press criticism of the high price of bread, Mr Burton, president of the Master Bakers’ Association, declared to-day that no reduction is possible until at least the end of the year, for which period the Government fixed the scale price of wheat. With' regard to bran and offal, the present prices were definitely against . the millers. Whilst there was the present fixed price for" flour the bread price could not be lowered. The Bakers’ Federation definitely promised to attend any conference called to review the whole position of wheat, flour, and bread prices. The high price of bread was not the wish of the bakers, whose sales w r ere thereby affected. The Greymouth Cash and Carry price of the 41b loaf is 13d.
