The capital of Great Britain is now £18,000,000,000, says Sir Josiah Stamp, one of the highest authorities. Sir Josiah gave this figure to the Royal Statistical Society the other day, and stated that his estimate might be a thousand millions wrong, but, compared with his 1914 figure of just over £14,000,000,000, the advance in wealth was striking. An interesting fact is that Britain spent all its national savings and lost a quarter of its foreign investments from 1914 to 1920, but in the eight succeeding years saved £450,000,000 a year. These figures are amazing. In spite of taxation, the war debt Britain is paying to America, and all other difficulties, the nation i» steadily adding to its great wealth.
