BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS.
(From Oob Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, February 6. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF. At a special meeting of the Borough Council last evening it was decided to vote £25 towards the relief of the earth* quake sufferers in Hawke’s Bay. The Mayor is also calling a public meeting for next • week, and in the meantime is opening a public subscription list. Towards this P. M'Skimming and Son have subscribed £IOO, aud six other residents £5 each. BUTTER-FAT PRICES. Suppliers to Stirling Dairy Factory are receiving this month only 8d per lb for butter-fat, striking a new low level for this factory, which for some years has prided itself on the policy of maintaining big pay-out. Last month the price was 10 d, and for December Is, and the directors are said now to realise that the market did not justify the latter price, so that this month’s low price Will even things up. FLOOD DANGER PASSED. The Molyneux River has continued to fall slowly but surely, and all danger of flood may be said to have passed; The water in lower Clyde Street Deal the approach to the bridge has almost disappeared.
