WAIKOUAITI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIKOUAITI, February 6. BOWLING. In a match in the Mathieson Rose Bowl competition, played at Palmerston on Wednesday evening, Waikouaiti defeated Palmerston by 25 points to 11. This is the first time for. several yeara that this trophy has been held by a team from the Waikouaiti Bowling Club. UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Unemployment Committee was held last evening, when there was a good attendahcS of members, the Mayor (Mr Andrew,Fell) being in the chair, A review of the committee’s work for January showed that work had beeri secured for 10 Unemployed men, and the subsidy had been expended. A letter was received from the Unemployment Commissioner requesting the committee to remain in office until further notice, A telegram from the same source stated that work on local unemployment had been authorised by the Unemployment, Board, the work to be carried out under the supervision of the County Council authorities. It was decided to apply to the commissionef for a further subsidy under the No. 2 scheme, the committee being of the opinion that work would be provided by farmers if cheap labour was available. The committee expressed its willingness to work With any local body under scheme No. 5. After the business of the committee had been disposed of the matter of relief for the people of the stricken area in the North Island was brought forward and discussed. It was finally decided to call a meeting for Tuesday evening next, at which, sortie scheme may be devised,, whereby money for this object may be rafted.
