(From Odb Oww Coreespondskt.) OPHIR, December 22. TOWN WATER SUPPLY. Aa important event in connection'with the Ophir township water supply occurred oa December 14, when the two h.p. oil cngine and separate pump, which have operated for the last 19 years, were replaced by a-third h.p. electric motor and combined pump. In the presence of several members of the Water Supply Committee the engineer-manager of the Central Otago Power Board (Mr A, E. -Ellis) started the motor at 4.45 p.m. The almost noiseiß?, operation of the new plant was in striking contrast to the old one, of which the exhaust could be heard throughout the town. The party then proceeded to the concrete storage reservoir, which is 7 1 • i. e l L above , the town level, and into which the water poured from the supply P]Pe just 30 minutes after the starting of the engine. A measurement of the discharge showed only 110 gallons ner hour, instead of the 400 gallons (Stipulated, but after some adjustment the supply was increased to 410 gallons per hour. With the exception of a cool snap from December 13 to 18, the weather this mouth has been fine, though somewhat on the warm side for the first month of summor.
