Mr George Robert Story, whose death occurred on Wednesday, was a wellknown and widely-respected member of the 'business community, whose commercial activities for the 30 years he lived in Otago covered an extraordinarily wide field. He came to Dunedin from Melbourne, where he was born, in 1899, and established a frozen rabbit export business under the name of White and Co. He soon extended his operations, and in a few years was an outstanding figure in the local trade in skins and tallow. He was a man of unbounded energy, and enjoyed a remarkable reputation for hard work, Among his many interests were the Otago Preserving Works, which he founded, and freezing works at Waipiata, Alexandra, and Stuart street, all of which were devoted to the preparation of rabbit for export. He designed and built the premises in Stuart street known as Temple Court, and was at various times chairman of local committees in connection with the export trade. Mr Story is survived by a widow and five daughters, Mrs Hopper, Mrs Parker, Mrs Sinclair, and the Misses Story. The funeral, which was of a private nature, took place at the Anderson’s Bay Cemetery yesterday.
