A MISSING SPORTSMAN.

PROBABLY CARRIED TO SEA. (Per Un/ted Press Association.. AUCKLAND, October 3. Grave fears are entertained for the jafety of Ernest Lind, who set out on a fishing trip in a dinghy from Omaio, about 30 miles from Opotiki, on Wednesday. No trace of Lind has since been found. / The dinghy in which he set out is stated to have been in a leaky condition, although he had frequently made fishing trips in it. A strong south-westerly wind was blowing on Wednesday, while there were indications of boisterous weather. It is feared that Lind was carried out to sea between White Island and Cape Runaway. Fairly large seas were running Lind, who is a single man, aged about 40, was employed by the Public Works Department at Omaio. The fact that he was missing was reported to_ the Opotiki police, and all coastal shipping and police stations have been notified.
