GREEK ANTIQUITIES.

2000-YEAR-GLD NURSERY. During excavation for the erection of a refugee settlement in Thebes, Greece, recently, the ruins of a house of great archaeological interest were discovered. In the corner of the nursery were some charming dolls, including a marble statuette of great beauty, reminding one of the famous Tanagra, earthen statuettes which are now believed to have been copies of statues by eminent sculptors. This house is believed to be one of those - burned down by Alexander the Great’s army in 336 n.c.—i.e., 2266 years ago—in revenge for the hostility shown to him by the Thebans duringdiis attempt to force Greece to follow in his great expedition for the conquest of Asia.
