Charged with damaging a railway carriage window, at 12s 6d, Thomas Leslie Raines pleaded guilty.—lnspector Cummings- said that the defendant, with some other youths, had been skylarking on 'the Mosgiel train. The accused had accidentally, put his shoulder through the window. He had promised to pay tor the damage, but had failed to do so.—The defendant produced; a receipt showing that be had paid the amount after some delay. —The case was dismissed; subject to the payment of court costs (10s). For failing to have motor cars properly lighted, the following 1 were each lined 5s and costs: —James Ewing Bardwell, Philip Barlipg, Samuel Campbell, William Boyd Kincaid, John "Henry Pocklington, Ernest Roy Rout, Francis Walter Scott, lan Oliver Shepard, Robert- Nelson Smith, Cyril Herbert Vivian. On a similar charge, John Scddon was convicted and discharged. Robert Sim pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving, and was fined 40s and costs (10s). For allowing his motor car to cause an obstruction in High street, Thomas Somervijle was fined 10s and costs (10s). ■ Francis B. C. Ward was fined 10a and costs (10s) for driving a motor car without having a license. Arthur William Henry Reynolds was similarly charged, and was fined 6s and costs (10s). Harold H. Crump was charged with plying for hire on a motor rank without a license, and in connection with the same offence Herbert James Hastie was charged with employing an unlicensed motor driver. —Mr R. L. Fairmaid appeared for the defendants, both of whom pleaded guilty.—Mr Fairmaid said that there had been no other car in the garage, and Crump had been sent out to meet an engagement.—Hastie was fined 20s and costs (10s), and Crump was ordered to pay costs (10s).
