UNEMPLOYMENT.
RELIEF WORK IN DUNEDIN. At a meeting of the unemployed at the Trades Hall yesterday a resolution was carried in which it was urged that the Unemployment Committee be granted power to place 50 per cent, of the men on the unemployed register on the work provided by the funds derived from the recent Trotting Club meeting. It was also reported that Mr E. Hornibrook, of Mosgiel, hud offered. - his premises as a depot for goods, eatables, and clothing, etc., left by residents of. the district for the unemployed in the city The hon. secretary of the Citizens’ Unemployment Committee (Mr P. Neilson) acknowledges receipt of £2' from «7 rS t> F " a thircl donation of £1 from B. and Co., and also donations of \ egotables from Outraui, and clothing meat, and other goods for th*e depot. RELIEP LOAN IN WELLINGTON. ■ deb United Press Association;) WELLINGTON, June 10. •ij Wellington City Council has decided to raise an unemployment relief loan totalling £45,000. The Mayor mentioned that the council had been able to secure very much better conditions than hitherto in respect -of the Government’s subsidy. A DOSS-HOUSE UNNECESSARY. Vle i v °* ■ evidence produced as the result of a recent conference of clergy and others interested in social work the Hawke s Bay Hospital Board has decided that the present arrangements for meeting the distress arising out of unemployment are adequate. The board in consequence, would not agree to the establishment of a doss-house in Napier.
