DUNEDIN BURNS CLUB.
MONTHLY CONCERT. The Dunedin Burna Club held the first of its monthly concerts for the season in the Early Settles' Hall last evening, the president (Mr G. Currie) in the chair. There was a large attendance of members and friends, and the enthusiasm with which the various items were greeted was a striking indication of the increasing popularity of these enjoyable entertainments. Prior to the commencement of the concert, the chairman extended a welcome to those present, and expressed the hope that the ensuing season would be as successful as the previous one had been. The programme, which was a lengthy one, was keenly appreciated, not the least popular feature being n hearty community sing in which everyone joined lustily in a rendering of “ Just a Wee Deoch and_ Doris.” . The choir, although numerically weak, acquitted itself very creditably, and, under the baton of Mr P. C. Cooper, it presented “ Macgregor's Gathering ” spiritedly and with excellent effect. Another number was the part song, “Robin Adair, which was rendered sympatheticwith a flattering reception. The following also contributed items: Mr W. (bagpipe selection), Misses Glare, Denholm, Davidson, Messrs N. Gamble, W. B. Lambert (songs). Miss P Mowat (Scottish dance), Mr J. R. Marshall (trombone solo), Mr J B. M Connell (recitation), Mr P. Ramagc (whistle solo). Two interesting gramophonei recordings—an address by Mr Ramsay MacDonald and a bracket of Scottish songs—were also presented. At the conclusion of the concert an enjoyable dance was held.
