LONDON, May 11, Another disaster was narrowly averted at Brooklands on the second day of the double 12 hours’ race. Earl Howe, with Malcolm Campbell, was travelling at a rate of 100 miles per hour when he discovered that the near side rear wheel was banging by a few threads. The race ended in heavy rain, Bentleys filling first and'second places, and a Riley third. The leading Bentley averaged 86.68 miles per hour. VICTORY FOR BRITISH CARS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 11. (Received May 12, at 5.5 p.m.) The double 12 hours’ international motor race at Brooklands ended yesterday in a British victory. The Bentley car, which averaged 86.8 miles an hour for the 24. hours and was driven by Barnato and Clements, won the event. A Bentiey, driven by Davies and Duufoc at an average of 86.68 miles an hour, was second, while a Riley car was third and an Aston Martin fourth. The team cup was won by the Morris garage midget cars. Several women were among the competitors. Heavy rain in the last few hours caused some dangerous skids, and Lord Howe, who was driving a Bngatti, had a narrow escape from disaster when a back wheel worked loose.
