EFFECT ON AMERICAN TRADE COMPETITION FROM BRITAIN. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, May 12. The Department of Commerce, in an analysis of the new Canadian tariff, states that 225,000,000 dollars worth of trade with the United States will be affected adversely. In most instances, the department stated, American producers were greatly interested in the clauses giving preference to British goods. “ The competition between the imports from Britain and those from the United States will be substantially increased, and American exporters of many lines will be required to lay greater stress on service and quality.”
