MILTON NOTES.
(From Oub Own Correspondent.) MILTON, May 11. PERSONAL. , Miss C. Campbell, who is to be married shortly, was entertained last week at a complimentary social evening by fellow-teaohera in the junior department of Toko Presbyterian Church Sunday School, and presented with a half-dozen each of stainless knives and soup spoons. The superintendent (Miss J. C. Littlejohn) voiced best wishes for the recipient’s future welfare. LADIES’ GOLF. A ladies’ medal match over 18 holes was played on Toko Golf Club’s links on Saturday afternoon in glorious weather. Following were the best cards handed in: Mrs Wesney, 102—17—85; Mrs Vidal, 108—15 —93; Miss M'Laren, 110—12 — 98; Mrs Wilson, 122—23—99; Mrs Milne, 121—21—100. LADIES' HOCKEY. The South Otago Association’s shield competition was continued on Saturday afternoon, under glorious weather conditions. Milton A defeated Kaitangata on the latters ground by 2 goals to nil; Bruce A defeated Clutha at Balclutha by 4 goals to nil; Milton B defaulted to Bruce B. / The newly-formed Lawrence Club has joined up with South Otago Association. At next meeting of the executive arrangements will probably be made to include teams from Owaka, Clutha Valley, and Lawrence into the second round of the shield competition. FOOTBALL. The South Otago Union’s banner competition, under the rearranged system of fixtures, were recommenced on Saturday afternoon under ideal weather conditions. Present indications point to a “ lean ” time being experienced in the winter pastime for the current season. Of the five clubs competing in the Senior Grade banner competition last aeaeon only Toko is able to field a Senior Grade team, and Owaka has joined with Romnhapa in forming a senior team, , The only match played in the northern division on Saturday was between Toko B and Union at Moneymore, in which the Toko team proved victorious by 11 points to 3. Crescent was unable to raise a team for its opening match, and defaulted to Toko A. '' In the Second Grade competition Toko had the bye. WOOLLEN MILL SOCIAL. To foster and encourage the spirit of happy good fellowship amongst the employees of Bruce woollen mills a social club has been formed, and the first of its winter season’s activities took place on Friday evening, with a fancy dress dance. The function was held in the mill social hall, and was attended by 105 couples. An orchestra of seven instrumentalists (all employees) provided excellent dance music. Vocal items were contributed at intervals by other employees. Prizes were awarded for most effective fancy costumes, the ladies’ prize being won by Miss MTnnes (a swan) and men’s prize by Mr F, Brown (gay cavalier),
