ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
WOMAN’S FOOT AMPUTATED. - (Per United Press Association.) LEVIN, May 7. In a collision between a car and a train at Ohau last evening Mrs J. Johnston, of Wellington, had her foot so badly injured that it was found necessary to ampu tate it. The car was driven by her husband, who at a diagonal crossing mistook the lights of an oncoming train for those of a car. Not hearing the whistle, the car ran on to the cattle Stop, and the occupants were getting out when Mrs Johnston was struck by some part of the engine. The ear was thrown off the cattle stop, but was not badly damaged. MOTOR CAR MISHAP. Edward Fitzsimmons, aged 36, single, residing at I Gilmore street, Roslyn, was admitted to the Hospital last evening suffering from injuries tq the head as the result of being knocked down by a motor ear in'Crawford street. FROM HEART FAILURE. An* inquest into the death of William Arthur Gordon, a tailor, aged 56. single residing at 58 Stuart street, who collapsed and died whilst proceeding to the fishing grounds at Warrington on Tuesday, was held yesterday before Mr J R Bartholomew, S.M. Evidence was given by George M'Mnrrny. who accompanied .i 'c^sccl, and George Munro, a friend oi the deceased. Dr Evans testified that death was due to heai-t failure, and the coroner returned a verdict in accordance with this evidence.
