AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIPS. i Record entries have been received for the Otago Amateur Athletic Championship meeting, -which will be staged at the Caledonian Ground to-morrow afternoon, and from the calibre of the men engaged, the fixture promises to provide some wellcontested races, especially over distances ranging from 440yds to one mile. The 440 Yards Championship should result m a great struggle, particularly if the New Zealand champion. A. W. Findlay, happens to be in form. L. C. M'Lachlan. C. J. Thompson, A. H. Malcolm, T. R, -Buxton. and C. W. Rout will be among the starters in this race, in which very fast time may be anticipated. The half-mile should be one of the best races of the meeting, as L. C. MTjacblan (New Zealand champion) will be engaging J. W. Webber (the New Zealand University champion), C. J. Thompson. J. Lovelock, E. A. Taylor, R. Creeser (Invercargill), and other well-known runners. Tie mile will be fought out by three sterling runners in J. J, Morris (who has a victory against R. A. Rose to his credit in the New Zealand championship in 1927). J. Lovelock (University star), and L. A. Wood (the brilliant Caversham runner). R. O. Johnson has been showing remarkably good form in the hop, step, and junin and J. G. Leckie is expected again to approach his wonderful throw of 151 ft 6in with the hammer. The cycling championships have drawn entries from ail over Otago and Southland, as many as 21 riders taking part in some of the events.
