CRICKET IN NEW ZEALAND. AUCKLAND COACH'S VIEWS. '{Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, February 26. “Auckland cricket is gradually reaching a high standard, and undoubtedly its strength is in batting at the present time,” said A. P. Wensley (coach) when asked for his impressions of the game in Auckland. Wensley has just concluded a season’s coaching in Auckland, i, S£lrae time,’’ said the coach, there will never be batsmen of test class until such time as bowlers concentrate more on length and direction, spin, flight, and swing. Questioned as to the batting capabilities of Aucklanders, Wensley said 'at the two outstanding batsmen were G. L. Vi oir and ,T. Mills. Weir, in his opinion, hud a great future before cim. Wensley was not nearly so enthusiastic regarding Auckland bowling talent, which h 6 said was the weakest department of its cricket. This applied to New Zoaland as well. Judging on the test play he had seen in Auckland, Allcott was an exception in that he varied his flight and pace., !f young cricketers would realise that there was as much pleasure in <owlIn.g as in batting, cricket would imorove in New Zealand out 5 all knowledge. ■ Questioned oir bis opinion regarding the next scries of tests between England and Australia, the coacn stated that England would' probably win on account of its bowling strength.
