THE NEW HEBRIDES.

FRENCH INTERESTS. AUSTRALIA’S DIFFICULTY. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 2G. Tlie Rev. O. Michelseu, for 52 years a Presbyterian minister in the New Hebrides, arrived by the Mauuganui on furlough, and will go to Dunedin for the General Assembly. He says that if Australia purchased the French interests she wofild be in a more difficult position than the French owing to the scarcity of labour in the group. The French had been using Tonkinese, and were in a much better position than the British planters because the Homo Government would not allow recruited labour to be brought in by Britishers.
