OTAGO ASSOCIATION’S TOURNAMENT. ■ The first annual tournament held under the auspices of the Otago Croquet. Association was opened yesterday moftiing on the Punga Club’s lawns. Mrs Bridgman (president of the association) welcomed the visitors and thanked the JPunga Cllib for its courtesy in allowing the association the use of its lawns arid equipment. She wished the competitors a pleasant and successful week. . Before Mr Bridgman rolled the first ball Mrs M'Donald (president oP the Punga Club) stated that her club had much pleasure in handing over the equipriient to the association, arid wished the competitors a successful torirnament. The following is the result of the first day’s play:— HANDICAP UOUBIjES. A Grade.

Airs Corbett and Airs Wood (St. Clair) defeated Miss Mee and Miss Sparrow (St. Clair) 26—11. Mrs Rivets and Mrs Duncan (Alexandra) defeated Mrs Kindle and Mrs Swann (Balmacewen) 26—21. ; Airs Gascoigne and Mrs Buchler (Punga) defeated Mrs Ferguson and Airs Alpodi e (Punga) 26 —14. Airs Christopher and Airs O’Donnell (St, Clair) defeated Airs J. R. Alitchell and Miss Murdock (Timaru) 26 —16. Airs Horn and Airs Cowper (Christchurch) defeated Airs Oshorn and Airs Rigby (Punga) 23—15, Airs White and Airs Halliday (St. Clair) defeated Airs Flynn arid Mrs Wills (Punga) 17—16. This was a closely-cohtested game, each player gaining on the Other in turn. At the time limit Airs Wills was in and lying with her partner at the hoop in order but instead of making it played to separate blue and black lying on the line, but unfortunately weht to the boundary and let black, the out-player, in to make one more hoop, thus giving Alesdames White and Halliday the game.
