With tho object of ensuring the safety of children bathing in the baths at Milton Domain, the headmaster of Toko High School has arranged for a number of the teaching staff to be on duty from 3.15 to 4 p.m. every school day for personal supervision. The School Committee, in approving. of the ■ headmaster's action, warns parents that neither the, committee nor teachers will he responsible for the safety of any children bathing outside the specified time. PICNICS. } The Toko Presbyterian Church Sunday School annual picnic was held on Saturday at Toko Mouth, and, with the glorious weather prevailing, everything passed off happily. The outing at the seaside was enjoyed by both juveniles and adults, about 300 or 400 being conveyed by motor lorries and private motor cars. A sports programme for the youngsters was got off during the afternoon. St. John's Anglican Church Sunday School picnic was also held on Saturday, the rendezvous being Mr W. J. Sheet’s Roxburgh Estate,” Mount Stuart. A considerable number attended and spent an enjoyable time. EDUCATIONAL EXPERIMENTS. An interesting experiment in school work has been inaugurated at Toko District High School by grouping the pupils of the upper classes into two teaching groups. Mr Miller will teach English and arithmetic, , and Mr Webster will teach reading, history, and geography. The twofold objects ot this experiment are that the teachers will make a special study of their own subjects, and pupiis will be classified in their strongest suh- ' - BOWLING MATCHES. Two postponed matches of. the South Otago Association's interclub fixtures were played on the local green on Saturday afternoon, when Milton received visits of four rinks from Benhar Club and three rinks from Stirling. The matches were played simultaneously, and with seven rinks occupied, the green presented an animated appearance. Milton defeated Benhar by nine points (80 —71), but Stirling proved successful by two points (57 65). The scores were (Milton names first): — MILTON v. BENHAR. W. A. TENNIS MATCHES.' Milton Club’s A and B Grade teams were' both engaged in the South Otago Association a fixtures on Saturday afternoon. The A Grade team visited Kaitangata and scored its first victory for several years past against that club by 10 sets (110 games) to6sets (86games). After 11 successive victories in South Otago Association Shield and Cup matches this season the Milburn team had its colours lowered on Saturday afternoon, when it was defeated ,hy the narrow margin of five runs by a visiting Owaka team on Milburn'e own ground. Milton received a visit from the Clutha A 1 team which it defeated by 81 runs. The weather was gloriously fine. The Milburn and Owaka teams met on the Milburn ground. The home team batted first and registered its smallest score this season, being dismissed for the meagre total of 63 runs, towards which R. anicich was the only double figure contributor ivith 31, Coutts (six tor 24) and Hampton (two for 8) were the most mccessful howlers for Owaka.
